On Thursday Tobias went home again, to Sweden. That morning I woke up with no energy and completely depressed from head to toe. In the end, however, it was another fun week on site. Let’s see!
Rest and next phase (Thaimout 2026 v.3)
I actually have no problems traveling alone and am often alone with one, two and three children. Yet I never get used to the feeling of being separated from part or all of my family – and it gets worse every year. In this case, I should be happy that Tobias is going home to the big kids’ house.
That said, we make a few last excursions before Tobias goes home. It’s really important to be careful when the family’s personal driver is still on duty!

I have my sights set on Sabai Sabai in Klong Khong, which I have seen flying by in the feeds of friends and acquaintances. Every time there is a sign with the text point of view is a good sign that the place will be worth a visit. This day we are not lucky and unfortunately we are met by a sign “closed today”. It doesn’t happen that often here.

At least we get our view – although not in the comfy hammocks I expected. Time to grab our backup plan…

…which is a round trip down to Kantiang Beach. Here Tobias undoubtedly orders the best drink of the trip so far, a mango lassi at Kantiang Bay View Resort. Recommended! The beach here is very beautiful, just like the rest of the beaches on the southern part of the island.

We also make sure to have one last family dinner together, this time at the island’s Greek restaurant (which is all about Valentine’s Day). When we get home, the starry sky is twinkling and I take a photo from our balcony. Is it really strange that we have this view outside the front door?

One of the evenings we met up with good friends for dinner on the Roof…

…a premier “fine dining” restaurant here at Slow Down. It is the first time that Tobias and I have gone there, it is strange that this has not happened before. Better late than never. The food is very good and the environment is pleasant, as is the company.

I feel compelled to immortalize Tobias’ small (!) snack bag for the flight home. He claims that much of the content was purchased for our grandchildren, but I would like to know how that turned out. When Tobias moves on to Phuket it becomes empty and gloomy, both Nelly and I notice that. Of course it will still be good. When Nelly is at school, I work on both padel and travel jobs.

Every day (and preferably in the evening) I make sure to walk or run along the beach – shorter or longer, depending on time and energy. The sun, this life- and hope-giving creation, keeps me company.

It’s Friday and therefore time to enter the next phase of our Thai malt! I’m taking a TukTuk to Friday’s joint assembly/graduation ceremony at school. Nelly ultimately decides to start in the school’s padel profile, good choice I think (perhaps not entirely unexpected).

Time for the usual Friday fun in Saladan! Dumplings, Thai pancake and shopping are on the program.

It’s Saturday and Nelly surprises me with a Valentine’s Day gift from the island’s newest store addition, Mr DYI. There is exactly everything and more!

She in turn gets to decide on today’s lunch, which will consist of dumplings. Again! We wash down the food with a fresh coconut each. Coconut and lemon are and will always be my favorite flavors on earth.

We end the day by buying breakfast products and coffee at 7/11…

…and snap snap snap, Valentine’s Day is over!
Now it’s definitely Sunday and we say thank you and hello to our third week on site. This fact also means that we’re in our Thai malt HALF THE TIME, which in turn feels…well, what does it really feel like? I miss the big kids at home and find that six weeks is the absolute maximum for how long I can imagine being away from them. At the same time, it feels like Nelly and I have just landed here on the island? Need to gather energy, motivation and everything possible. This afternoon I’m looking forward to yoga sessions at Oasis Yoga, then it’s time to get ready for the new week – hopefully a fairly quiet week.
