Highlights of the results include:
Flowchart for fine particles (< 20 microns) using sulfuric acid;- 88.8% to 95.2% phase extraction of TREO; And
– 71.2% to 94.2% of TiO2 stage recovery.
Flowchart for coarse particles (>75 microns) with conventional flowchart;
– 76.8% TiO2 concentrate quality; And
– TiO2 phase recovery from coarse feed 39%.
Important notice: These results should be read in conjunction with Annex I* (Details of results) and Annex II* (JORC table).
Commenting on the latest results and update for Tiros, Christopher Eager, CEO of Resouro said;
“Resouro is well advanced in testing a conventional process flowsheet for titanium dioxide recovery to concentrate and high leaching rare earth extractions. The latest metallurgical test results provide increasing confidence that the Tiros project has the potential to be developed into a globally important regolith and rare earth type regolith (highly weathered soft rock) project.”
Ongoing metallurgical testing and optimization
The current phase of the metallurgical test work, being carried out at SGS Lakefield (Canada) and at CIT Senai and SGS Geosol (Brazil), aims to reduce sulfuric acid consumption and further optimize recovery.
The preliminary sulfuric acid consumption ranged from 700 kg/ton to 1,320 kg/ton. These acid consumption figures are for the raw sample minus the 20 micron fraction prior to enrichment activities and before sulfuric acid recycling. The minus 20 micron sample constitutes approximately 56% of the weight of the raw sample and therefore corresponds to 392 kg/ton to 739 kg/ton acid per ton of raw sample.
Iron oxides and alumina make up approximately 54% of the minus 20 micron feed and are significant acid consumers. Beneficiation testing work is aimed at reducing iron oxide, alumina and other worthless corridor minerals from the leachate. Beneficiation is intended to reduce the amount of leached material by reducing low-value acid-consuming minerals, thereby increasing the TiO2 and TREO qualities of the leachate, with the goal of improving overall project economics.
Ongoing work is evaluating:
– Magnetic separation to remove iron oxides which are significant acid consumers;
– Flotation to remove non-valuable silicate and gangue materials before leaching;
– Optimization of reductive calcination and acid baking conditions;
– Acid regeneration and acid recycling; And
– Possible production of sulfuric acid on site to reduce operating costs.
Initial tests in magnetic and electrostatic separation and flotation were encouraging, indicating the potential to significantly reduce acid consumption while maintaining high metal recoveries.
Resouro will also explore acid regeneration and recycling and the feasibility of on-site sulfuric acid production to take advantage of the abundant elemental sulfur and sulfur mineralizations available in Brazil.
Preliminary update of the economic assessment
The PEA continues to make progress, but in order to be more economical and respect budgets, it is being considered to suspend the PEA pending the completion of the ongoing optimization of the metallurgical test work. Key milestones achieved or in progress include:
– Initial mine planning is largely completed pending final processing costs;
– Advance environmental impact assessment and project permitting process;
– Infrastructure, processing plant capital and operating costs must be finalized upon completion of beneficiation, the current phase of metallurgical testing work; And
– Received first independent market study for TiO2 and rare earth oxides; update to track the completion of enrichment.
Completing processing fees remains the most important workflow prior to completing the PEA.
