Ijer has been out of action since suffering a serious impact injury to his lower left rib cage during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. Initial scans showed a rupture in his spleen, accompanied by internal bleeding, an injury that required immediate medical intervention and a longer recovery time. The BCCI confirmed on October 27 that he received extensive treatment in Sydney before being discharged after stabilisation. The 31-year-old has since made it some progress has been made, but his return remains subject to approval from specialists.
According to a report by India Today Ijer will undergo an ultrasound in the second week of December. The scan is expected to clarify the healing of his spleen and surrounding tissues. This is followed by a specialized sports medicine expert, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwalawho has overseen his case will assess the results and create a detailed rehabilitation plan.
In earlier stages of recovery Ijer underwent a USG scan near his residence, the images of which were reviewed by Dr. Pardiwala.
