Reportedly, Rohit Sharma will probably not perform in the ODI World Cup 2027, with India’s Tour in October 2025 by Australia expecting its last performances in the 50-over format. The Drie-Match series, planned for 19, 23 and 25 October, could serve as a farewell to one of India’s largest White-Ball batters.
In addition to Virat Kohli, Rohit has been the backbone of India’s ODI Batting for more than ten years. But with Rohit to turn 40 by the time of the World Cup 2027 in South Africa, fitness and workload problems have led to the team management shifting the focus to taking care of the next generation.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir and Selectors see the transition as part of a long-term plan, in which Shubman Gill is currently following the leader’s test captain and the Asia Cup Vice captain De Koerloper De Koploper as ODI Skipper.
Reports suggest that both Rohit and Kohli can announce their ODI Futures before the Australia series starts. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has already stated that he was not expected to be in the World Cup 2027.
“They have been huge artists in this size of the game. Again, the selection committee will probably look at the World Cup 2027. They will look at ‘they will be able to be in the team for the World Cup 2027 World Cup? Will they be able to make the kind of contributions they have made, it is that they have made today.
“No, I don’t think they will play. I am very honest. But who knows, in the coming year or so, if they get a rich vein of shape, and if they keep score hundreds and hundreds, even God cannot drop them,” Gavaskar added.
Rohit leaves a formidable ODI record: 11.168 runs in 273 games on an average of 48.76, with 32 centuries, 58 fifty and an unparalleled three double centuries. He was recently captain of India as the title of the Champions trophy of 2025 in Dubai.
If confirmed, the Australia series will be remembered as the last chapter of a shimmering ODI trip that reformed the Batting -Efsituard of India.
