Reporter Shelton runs the tables at Trinity Rodman in a funny interview

Ben Shelton picks up the headlines on and next to the field, and this time it is to step into the role of reporter.

Only two weeks ago in the US Open, the 22-year-old American was overwhelmed when his girlfriend, football player Trinity Rodman, put him on site during a press conference by teasing him about not beating a serve above 135 mph.

Shelton turned the tables on Sunday. After Rodman scored both goals in the 2-0 victory of Washington Spritis over Seattle Reign in the National Women’s Soccer League, Shelton seized his chance to ask the questions.

“First of all, I want to say a great game, Trin. I have a few questions,” Shelton said to Rodman, who couldn’t control her laughter. “Two great combo goals today, it was really cool to see the assist. You can talk about your dynamics with Croix Bethune and how you play each other. It’s really cool to see.”

Rodman answered carefully, but Shelton slid a playful memory of the US Open Cameo: “No, I’m going to keep it positive,” he joked, referring to the pointed Serve-Speeding that she lobed in New York.

Since they were publicly with their relationship in March, Rodman has been a fixture at many of the Shelton tournaments, including Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.

Now set offside with a shoulder injury that forced him to withdraw from his third round match in New York, the number 6 player in the PIF ATP ranking gives the support back by cheering Rodman on NWSL games, and even tackling a microphone when the possibility requires it.
