Report: Maple Leafs prospect Ben Danford traded to Brantford Bulldogs from Oshawa Generals

Reports surfaced Wednesday evening that Danford, captain of the OHL’s Oshawa Generals, was traded from the Oshawa Generals to the Brantford Bulldogs. According to Joshua Kloke of The Athletic, the transaction is still being worked out and is not yet official.

It appears Maple Leafs prospect Ben Danford could be on his way from the Oshawa Generals to the Brantford Bulldogs. Trade not done and teams are working on it. Brantford is undefeated in OHL thus far and Danford could get another possible shot at a Memorial Cup.

The Nation Network’s Jeff Marek followed up later with even more details on the trade.

OHL News – sounds like Maple Leafs prospect Ben Danford will be traded, along with Zack Sandu, from the Oshawa Generals to the Brantford Bulldogs for Aiden O’Donnell, Lucas Moore, Luca Diplacidio and several picks.

Danford, 19, was a first-round pick of the Maple Leafs in the 2024 NHL Draft at 31st overall and is second in The Leafs Nation’s latest rankings. Oshawa has struggled to start the 2025-26 OHL season and currently sits in second-to-last place in the Eastern Conference with a 5-10-0 record. Brantford is undefeated in regulation and leads the Eastern Conference with a record of 11-0-2-1 (two overtime losses and one shootout loss).

It’s been a bit of a slow start offensively for Danford this season, with one goal and four points in eight games, but then again he was never called upon for his offensive abilities. His defensive play was admired by coaches around the OHL, being named the best defensive back and shot blocker in the 2024-2025 OHL coaches poll. Danford was also mentored by Jake Muzzin in development camp and credits Chris Tanev as an influence on his playing style. Danford spoke about the mentorship he received from Muzzin after he was drafted.
“I’ve been a Leafs fan all my life and watched him. I definitely looked up to him, so to get to know him and learn from him, it’s really special,” Danford said of Muzzin’s impact via Mark Masters of TSN.

If this trade comes to fruition, it will put Danford in the middle of a playoff race, which could do wonders for his production this season. He joins fellow Leafs draft pick Sam McCue, along with several other first-round picks, including defenseman Adam Jiricek (St. Louis Blues), Jake O’Brien (Seattle Kraken) and Marek Vanacker (Chicago Blackhawks).
