Report: Calgary Flames and Connor Zary Connect to 3 -year contract -De Win -Kolom

It seems that we finally get some clarity on the Connor Zary front, just a few weeks before the training camp starts. The hanging RFA is not signed all summer, but it seems that this Saga is coming to an end this week, according to David Pagnotta.

A bridge deal was always the obvious route

Despite how long this has been pulled out, it always seemed as if the obvious bet would be an agreement of 3 years between the flames and their young Pivot. Zary has no incentive to sign a long -term agreement after a season plagued by injuries, and the flames now have no reason to commit in the long term. For that reason, a bridge always seemed to be the easy choice.

FELLOW 2020 First round Pick Tyson Foerster drew a two -year bridge this year, which was probably one of the most important comparisons for Zary’s new deal. He would have been more difficult to demand a little more, since in this situation he has zero leverage as RFA.

Although Zary is locked with a AAV bridge contract for three years, it may come back to chase the flames along the line if he has to do a large extension and have much more lever next time. The last thing this franchise needs is another star player who walks to a free desk.
