Twingo, Megane or Clio, it was (and remains) an extremely popular color. Not least because it cost as much new as ID pearlescent paint: it added about 10 percent to the price of a 133 at the time. It would be interesting enough to have one of these for sale, but a Liquid Yellow Clio V6 255, the ultimate crazy Renault of the 2000s, is a very special occasion.
This is one of only 18 such cars to have existed in Britain; Probably because the little V6 looked brilliant regardless of the color, but also because ID paints only came onto the market in 2005, the last year in which the Clio V6 was produced. So there are only 45 in yellow worldwide. According to the seller (who has V6 knowledge – thanks Graeme!) the original owner wanted Inferno Orange, but as production had already ceased they had to accept Liquid Yellow. And got a discount because I was so understanding…

Some of you may recognize this car from the EVO days, so that’s a nice piece of history. (The fame doesn’t stop there, because this one is the cover star of Duncan Powell’s The Clio V6 Legacy.) The current owner has owned it since 2014 and is responsible for just under half of the current (very modest) mileage of 33,000. He has kept the Clio exactly as you would expect from such an important Renaultsport product: the paint is protected with PPF, the maintenance has always been done by SG Motorsport and it is only driven in the summer months.
Even the modifications are usual V6-specific tweaks: the seat is mounted slightly lower thanks to custom rails and an upgraded exhaust has been fitted to bring the 3.0-liter to life. For XXL, the latter is actually an Orbisoud item, which the current owner believes is the only one in Britain.
So if you want a Clio V6 (and who doesn’t?), Phase 2 #264 has to be one of the very best around. Now that the Turbo 3E is approaching, interest in the old mid-engine Renaults will only increase further. This one seems to lack for nothing, and Liquid Yellow is an appropriately exotic color for everyone’s favorite shrink-wrapped supercar. Be sure to take it with you to future Sunday services, just like Graeme did…
