Reinier de Ridder plans to make a statement that he is the worthy next middleweight title contender at UFC Vancouver.
De Ridder will headline UFC Vancouver on Saturday against Brendan Allen in a pivotal middleweight bout. Off to battle, the Knight is a -210 favorite, while the American is a +162 underdog FanDuel.
Reinier de Ridder goes into the fight with a lot of confidence, because he thinks Brendan Allen cannot match his struggle. He thinks he’s sloppy at times and his cardio is also an issue, which will be an issue.
“His grappling is good, but a bit sloppy at times,” says de Ridder said to MMAFighting. “He falls from behind a lot, so maybe that’s something he’s adjusted by now. Has decent submissions, very opportunistic. He jumps on things when he sees it. His wrestling is decent. He’s got decent takedowns, decent takedown defense, nothing too great.”
“But I think what he misses most is that he fades a little bit in the later rounds,” de Ridder added of Allen. “He starts very hard, very sharp and very good in the first round, he is very dangerous just like against [Nassourdine] Imavov. He came out on top and controlled him pretty much the whole round, just like in the ‘Fluffy’ fight he also did very well in the first round. But in the later rounds it fades a bit. He doesn’t even look that tired, but something changes and he’s not the same man in the later rounds. So we’ll see for this one.”
Reinier de Ridder plans to make a statement at UFC Vancouver
Now that De Ridder thinks Allen is fading, he is confident he can take him into deep waters and have success.
The goal at UFC Vancouver is to dominate Allen and beat him to prove he deserves the next title shot.
“That’s the goal,” de Ridder said of putting Allen away. “If I can do that, I think it’s very clear who the best contender is.”
De Ridder enters the fight with a 21-2 record and is coming off a decision victory over Robert Whittaker.
