Regis Le Bris Newcastle United Press Conference ‘It’s a privilege to play against Newcastle’

The Regis Le Bris Newcastle United press conference has taken place.

The Sunderland boss will speak to journalists on Friday.

Only a few days to go until the derby match.

Sunderland have won just one of their last six Premier League matches.

While Sunderland have won just two home games in the last three and a half months, from September.

Regis Le Bris Newcastle United press conference:

“We’re playing Newcastle at home so it’s a privilege.

“We are so happy to have this experience at Stadium of Light against one of the best rivals in the league.

“We have this advantage at home and we have to make the most of it.

“So it will be important as usual. We are playing with this energy and this extra energy can help the project.”

“We had good experiences at the Stadium of Light this season.

“It was loud and I expect it will be even louder against Newcastle.

“So far the players are using this energy very well, to increase the momentum, to push, to change the dynamics of the game, which was necessary. So I hope this will be the case again.”

“The players are aware of the situation, but when you are on the field and you feel this energy, I can say that the effect for us and for the opponent is enormous. Very big.”

“We are exactly where we want to be.

“So it’s really exciting for our fans, for our players, and we will go into this match with humility, but also with ambition and desire to win. So that’s very positive.”

“Newcastle United is intense and well organised.

“They have good players.

“The bench is also big, so they have a clear identity, so with strength, but with weaknesses like everyone else in this league. So we will try to exploit some of them and I hope it will work.”

“If we think the game will be easier because we’ve had a good start to the season, I think that’s a problem.

“We have played very well so far, especially at home, because we had the mentality that it will be like our first Premier League and we will play with ambition and energy, but we will make mistakes that we can control with the energy of the team.”

Regis le Bris about team news for Sunday:

“Denis Cirkin is ready and has trained well. Probably two to three weeks now. He is connected to the group and that is good news, because now we do not have many injuries anymore.”

“Habib Diara will train with the group next week, fully trained, ready to go. He probably needs one or two weeks to be at his best after a good rehabilitation program and beyond, and depends on Afcon and so on. But we had to build up his fitness and he will be ready.”

“The decision is up to the national team whether they want to select the player for the camp.”

My thoughts

It is the first ever derby between Sunderland and Newcastle for Regis Le Bris.

Eddie Howe with the advantage of having already overseen one at United.

That time in January 2024 saw Newcastle United beat Sunderland 3-0 on Wearside.

A repeat of that would be nice.
