Reds aimed at a center of the ordering bat on the Handelsmarkt – Redleg Nation

It is not exactly surprising that the Cincinnati Reds are interested in adding a good batter. C. Trent Rosecrans of the athletics reported earlier this week that the team had spoken with Arizona about the possibility of gaining the RBI leader of the National League Eugenio Suarez in what a reunion would be with the former Reds Third Honkman. Ken Rosenthal, also from the athletic, reports Today that Cincinnati is interested in adding a center of the ordering bat and some Bullpen -Help.

Tonight’s game against Tampa Bay, the Reds were 7.5 games of the first place in the division, but were only one match at the back of the last Wildcard spot in the National League. They have quality pitching – The team has an 116 ERA+, which is 2nd in the competition behind the Philadelphia Phillies. However, Cincinnati’s Ops+is 94 and better than just the Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres.

Placing someone in the middle of the order seems to be the greatest need for the team. Eugenio Suarez remains the largest bat on the market, but he is not the only thumper there is.

The Reds Farm system had sufficient depth to exchange if they have the stomach for it. Most teams in the past decade have not been willing to close Deadline deals with one of their higher prospects. Last trade deadline, not a single top 100 prospect was moved in a deal. What that tells us is that a team that is willing to relocate a quality prospect can probably land everyone on the market.

Although winning the division is not impossible – teams have overcome larger shortages in the last two months – it seems incredibly unlikely. But the Wild Card spot is there for the taking. Cincinnati is currently in a good place to take a step to bring in to someone and make a movement in the rankings.
