On Saturday, December 6, the Seattle Kraken hosted the Detroit Red Wings. This was the second meeting of the season for the two teams. The first was on November 18, where the Red Wings won 4-2. The Red Wings defeated the Kraken again, 4-3, sweeping the season series.

Summary of the game

Five minutes into the first period, Berkly Catton went to the penalty box for pinning Elmer Soderblom. With seconds left on the power play, Axel Sandin-Pellikka had the puck on the blue line. He passed it off to Nate Danielson in the middle of the left faceoff spot. He passed it across the ice to Emmitt Finnie in the other circle. He took a shot and opened the scoring.

16 minutes in, Matty Beniers stole the puck from the Red Wings in their zone. He passed the ball to Jordan Eberle in the neutral zone, who began to make a break to the net. Brandon Montour was hot on his heels and Eberle sent him a drop pass. His shot went down the beam, tying the game.

Five minutes into the second period, Simon Edvinsson shot, but Joey Daccord made the first save. Andrew Copp skated to the rebound and did his best to put the rebound behind him. It was initially unclear whether the puck ended up in the net, so play continued. At the next break the piece was assessed. After reviewing the footage, it was determined that the puck had indeed crossed the goal line. Detroit was back in the lead.

A minute and a half later, Tye Kartye gained control of the puck in the Kraken zone. He dropped it to Vince Dunn at the blue line. He passed it across the ice to his defensive partner, Adam Larsson, at the blue line. He immediately sent his shot flying through traffic for the Kraken’s second goal.

Six minutes later, Larsson had another chance on the blue line. This time his shot was tipped by Chandler Stephenson, giving Seattle its first lead of the night.

This lead was erased with seconds left in the second. After a botched Kraken play, JT Compher picked up the loose puck and sent it into the neutral zone. James van Riemsdyk grabbed the rebound. He skated to the goal without anyone defending him and scored again for Detroit. Both teams ended the second period with three goals to their name.
