Red Sox weighs Bullpen Moving for Walker Buehler

A disappointing season for Red Sox’s Righty Walker Buehler Continued on Tuesday. He only completed four innings while allowed four hits and so many walks in a loss of housing for the Orioles. It was the fourth time in his last five trips that Buehler has issued at least three free steps, and his season earned is a maximum of 5.40 in 22 starts.

Early tonight if Buehler would make his planned start on Monday, manager Alex Cora said that the team “has not yet spoken about it” (via Tim Healey of the Boston Globe). While Cora was not interested in discussing the situation publicly, Chris Cotillo van Masslive Reports that the SOX have internal conversations about moving Buehler to the Bullpen. It is not from the question that at a certain moment during the series of this weekend he is in relief against the Yankees at some point. That would clear him clearly from Monday in what a rematch against Baltimore would be.

Buehler has not been as effective as hoped. The SOX signed him with a one-year-old, $ 21.05 mm Free Agent deal that corresponded to the price of the qualifying offer that he did not receive from the Dodgers. Buehler had a very bad regular season in 2024 (5.38 ERA in 16 starts) but came on the market with positive buzz after closing the World Series. That convinced the SOx that he was a solid lead, but Buehler’s figures this year are even worse than those of the regular season 2024.

The Righty has a career-bear strikeout percentage of 16.5% and has received gifts at only 7.7% of its pitches. The recent command -have pushed its running speed north of 10% for the first time in his career (outside of a debut in 2017 in which he threw less than 10 innings). Buehler wore an ERA of 6.12 in the All-Star break. Although he led a usable 3.66 mark in the second half, he has run so many batters when he has eliminated his last six starts.

Boston remembered former fifth starter Richard Fitts From Triple-A Worcester this afternoon. Cora said that Fitts, who started all 17 performances between MLB and the upper minors, will be available from the Bullpen. Fitts on average only four innings per start while placing an near-5.00 ERA in the large competitions. The Sox pushed him out of the rotation when they arrived Dustin May At the deadline. They could turn the course and let him start on Monday.

Boston could also use both Buehler and Fitts in relief and one of them Kyle Harrison or Cooper Criswell To work as the fifth starter. Harrison has made 10 triple-a starts since he was taken over in the Rafael Devers Agreement. He has a solid 3.69 ERA, but has walked 12% of the batters, while on average he has less than five innings per start with Worcester. Criswell has a 3.70 mark in 65 2/3 frames over 16 triple-a traps.

If the SOX Buehler pulls out of the rotation, this affected him financially. He has already collected $ 1 million in bonuses by reaching 20 and 22 starts. He would each unlock another $ 500K on 24, 26 and 28 Starts. He will be a free agent next season when the SOX rejects their end of a mutual option in favor of a buy -out of $ 3mm.
