Two Nissan Rogue VC-Turbo engine recalls have been issued for more than 642,000 SUVs equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5-liter variable compression turbo engines.
One VC-Turbo recall could cause the Rogue to lose power, while the other requires the recall because the VC-Turbo engine could fail or catch fire.
Nissan Rogue VC-Turbo 2023-2025 Recall
Nearly 324,000 Rogues have been recalled because the VC-Turbo engine bearings can seize and lead to engine failure or fire. This recall is an expansion of a previous recall for Rogue VC-Turbo engines from 2021-2023 Rogues.
The previous recall followed a federal investigation into engine failures and fires involving VC Turbos. Problems were found with the engine bearings (main, A, C and L link) failing due to manufacturing defects. Components came loose, damaged the engine blocks and caused engine oil to leak onto hot components.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said higher temperatures damaged engine oil and caused the VC-Turbo engine’s bearings to seize and become damaged. NHTSA closed its investigation into VC-Turbo engines based on the Nissan recall in June 2025.
Nissan says this latest VC-Turbo recall covers the same engine issues, but expands the years to include 2023-2025 Rogues that were not included in the previous recall.
The recall notices for the Nissan Rogue VC-Turbo are due March 27, 2026. Dealers will reprogram the engine control module (ECM) software, check for diagnostic trouble codes and test drive the Rogues.
Nissan dealers may need to replace VC-Turbo engines if metal debris is found in the oil pans.
Fraudulent owners can call 800-647-7261 and ask for the recall numbers of the VC-Turbo engines R25E2 and R25E3.
Nissan Rogue VC-Turbo 2024-2025 Recall
As with the other Rogue memories, these are SUVs equipped with three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo engines with variable compression (VC-Turbo). However, this recall has been issued because the electronic throttle bodies can break.
According to Nissan specifications:
“During the ignition start-up process, the electronic gas chamber (ETC) performs a routine diagnostic test in which the internal gears rotate to the fully closed position and contact a fixed stop. In vehicles equipped with the applicable Engine Control Module (ECM) software, this diagnostic routine can cause the internal gear in the ETC assembly to weaken and break.”
Nissan is not aware of any crashes or injuries caused by the VC-Turbo problems, but the automaker has received 3,111 warranty claims related to the throttle bodies.
The recall letters for the Nissan Rogue VC-Turbo will be sent out on March 27, 2026 and dealers will reprogram the engine control module software and inspect and replace the electronic throttle bodies as necessary.
Nissan Rogue owners can contact Nissan Customer Service at 800-647-7261.
Nissan’s VC-Turbo recall numbers are R25E2 and R25E3.
