The Tampa Bay Rays have announced that presidents Matt Silverman and Brian Auld have chosen to resign from their roles in connection with the sale of the franchise, which is expected to close within the next two weeks pending the latest approvals.
At the closing of the transaction, Silverman will close his term of office at the organization after more than two decades of service. Although he will not have a formal role at the club, he will represent the current lead owner Stuart Sternberg and his partners in an Executive Advisory Board that is founded by the new property group.
Auld has also chosen to resign as president, but will stay with the Rays as a senior adviser to ownership and the leadership team during the transition and then.
Silverman thought about his term of office at the organization:
“It has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life to serve the rays and to help to have a lasting impact on the Tampa Bay region. What makes me the proudest is to see how the rays are woven into the identity of the region, with a real generation of fan base that brings its own family business to Rays Baseball.
Auld praised the employees of the organization and thought about his career at the franchise:
“This organization has never been alone about the victories and losses, it was about heart, goal and community. I am deeply proud of everything we have built together, and that pride comes from sharing this trip with some of the most dedicated, talented and creative people I have ever known. When I prepare for the president.
