Zimbabwe defeated Australia to qualify for the next round. Nepal won their first match since 2014, against Scotland, ending a 12-year drought in T20 World Cup matches. Nepal did very well in the tournament as they almost chased down the target of 185 runs in their very first match against England. They fell four points short of the chase.
Ravindra Jadeja wants Nepal to play Test
They received praise from many former cricketers for their performance in this edition of the tournament. With the brand of cricket they have played and the development they have shown in this format of the game, they have challenged the big nations. After their stellar campaign in the T20 World Cup, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has shared his thoughts on Nepal and their performance.
Your daily dose of cricket!
Yeh ashinfo 3 test match series??🤔
— Ravindrasinh jadeja (@imjadeja) February 18, 2026
While sharing his views via Reacting to his comment, his former India teammate Ravindra Jadeja said: “Yes, ashinfo 3 test match series ???”
Why can’t Nepal play test series or matches?
However, despite Ravindra Jadeja’s comment about India playing a Test series against Nepal, the associated country will not be able to play a Test match as they have not secured a place as a Test-playing nation. To achieve full member status, the team must perform consistently and be ranked higher in the ICC rankings.
According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), to achieve a Test Nation certificate, a national team must achieve full membership of ICC, which requires high-level performance, a robust domestic infrastructure (including multiple stadiums of international standards), financial stability and established long-term development programs for men’s, women’s and age-group cricket.
Nepali fans turned up in large numbers
However, when Nepal played in this World Cup, it didn’t feel like they were away from home as the fans created a surreal atmosphere in the stadiums. Even if it is a friendly bilateral series, or the matches of the CWC League 2 or the T20 World Cup, the loyalty of the Nepalese fans has proven many times over in the last decade.
Nepal’s cricket is in a developmental stage. After the win against the Scottish team, captain Rohit Paudel praised his players and also thanked the fans who turned up in large numbers at the Wankhede Stadium and also at Eden Gardens.
Paudel believes his team should play more against Test nations to improve their game and learn from the best cricketers around the world. It will showcase their abilities and test their skills more in the shorter format of the game.
