Kohli showed intent from the very beginning and built a remarkable partnership of 136 runs in 109 balls with Rohit Sharma, who got out after scoring 57 runs.

Even after Rohit’s dismissal, Kohli kept going and hit his 52nd hundred in ODI cricket. He ended his innings with 135 runs off 120 balls, with 11 fours and 7 sixes.

This innings came amid reports from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar planning to make a final call on the batsman’s future.

Meanwhile, former India head coach Ravi Shastri dropped a fiery comment on air after Kohli hit the barrel, saying he silenced many people.

“It’s number 52. Gets it with a boundary. Punches the air with delight. It’s been a long time coming. This is the format he’s playing now and he would have silenced a lot of people. His third on the ground,” Shastri said while commentating.

“It was a brilliant innings, just the way he got there. Just the timing of that shot,” he added.
