Rasmus Hojlund made a surprising admission about his time at Manchester United in his first comments after sealing a move to Napoli.
Hojlund joins Napoli
On the Deadline Day of the transfer, United confirmed that Hojlund had sealed a loan movement to Napoli.
The future of Hojlund had been the subject of transfer speculation during the summer transfer window, but the exit rumors increased when the 2025/26 season started.
The Dane was frozen the team by Ruben Amorim, who made it clear that he no longer had a future at Old Trafford.
Hojlund was told that it was in his best interest to leave and move elsewhere because he would have trouble getting minutes.
It is understood that a destroyed Hojlund did not feel like leaving United, but he reluctantly accepted to join Napoli to save his career.
He moved to the ruling Serie A champions for a first loan agreement with an obligation to make it permanent for £ 38 million if they secure the Champions League football.
Napoli is also set to pay United a loan costs for Hojlund.
The 22-year-old spoke with the YouTube channel of Napoli and admitted that he is a much better player thanks to his time at United, despite the difficult period he has endured in England.
Hojlund -remarks
Hojlund said about the transfer to the partenopei: “I was very excited, because it is a team that just won the competition. I also know how great the fans are, the city, and I am very happy for this opportunity.”
He explained that he is already familiar with former United teammate Scott McTominay and spoke a “little bit” against Romelu Lukaku, a player he labeled as one of his role models in football.
Hojlund added: “It is of course different now, because I come up with more experience and I am a better football player. I come with a lot of international experience.”
“I played in the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and in several countries.”
“I have a lot to prove, I want to show myself in the best team in Italy, and Napoli is very, very good.”
He continued: “I always work hard, I like to say that I want to die on the field, give everything for the team, score goals, create and fight everything.”
“I have been looking forward to this opportunity, I am very, very grateful and I will do my best to let us win something again this year, and to do the fans and club proudly.”
Hojlund was able to make his Napoli debut on Saturday 13 September, when they leave for Fiorentina.
