Planespotting is becoming more popular than ever, with plane enthusiasts traveling great distances to one of the parking lots around Adelaide Airport to capture that perfect photo of their favorite plane.

But if you were to purchase this West Richmond time capsule, you could say goodbye to that annoying commute.

On the market through Anne Einarson and Dijana Sladic of Harris Real Estate is 44 Passmore St – a 1950s home whose original charm has been perfectly preserved.

44 Passmore St, West Richmond, adjacent to Adelaide Airport, is for sale, offering a world of opportunity for plane spotters and airport staff. Officer Anne Einarson is photographed in the backyard with her 1-year-old grandson Xavier. October 23, 2025. Photo: Dean Martin

Adjacent to Adelaide Airport, the fence offers uninterrupted views of aircraft, and perhaps the ideal place to pursue a passionate pastime.

“It has been on the market for a week and there is a lot of interest in it, from young first home buyers and people looking at it as a renovation or potential development,” Ms Einarson said.

“People love it – some have said they want to stay there as long as the current owner has had it, which is 63 years.

“It is an incredibly reluctant sale; it is only due to old age and ill health that the owner has been forced to go into care.

“It was a difficult decision for the family.”

The property sits on a plot of 780 m² and has three bedrooms, a family bathroom with separate bath and shower, a living room to the front and a laundry room to the rear.

In the backyard you will find a garage and a granny flat with a private bathroom.

“I have people interested in it who work at the airport and they say it’s incredibly well located for that. If you worked for one of the airlines it would be perfect,” Ms Einarson said.

“It’s also so close to the city and the beach, and it’s affordable. We’re looking at the land value because it needs renovation.

“It hasn’t changed since it was built, with the exception of the carpet which looks more like it was installed in the 1970s.

“All the furniture there is also from the 60s, so it’s definitely a time capsule.”

Activity on online planespotting forums has increased in recent years, partly due to the increasing popularity of flight tracking apps and the improvement of smartphone cameras, which allow people to capture high-quality, detailed images from a distance.

Ms Einarson said despite the neighbour, the aircraft noise was not as loud as for residents of North Adelaide, Glenelg, Torrensville and Cowandilla who were directly under the flight path.

“It’s not under the flight path, it’s just over it, so you can see the planes coming in, but they’re not flying right over your head, and then they’re taking off the other way, so I haven’t really heard them when I’ve been here,” she said.

“Certainly, a lot of people like airplanes and people track them through monitoring apps, look at the sky and identify them, and for those people this place would be perfect.

“Airways are no longer the deterrent they used to be – that has changed enormously.”

Wooden walls are quite trendy for that time.

Ms. Einarson said that although the airport never tried to buy them out, the owners called the property their “castle.”

The property – with a price guide of $725,000 – will be auctioned this Saturday at 9am.
