Little has happened at the top of the rankings as the world’s best travel to the Malaysian Peninsula in Southeast Asia for the Singapore Smash – one of the biggest events of the year. This break leaves the top 19 players all unchanged in the rankings, while Chuqin, Calderano, Shidong, Harimoto and Moregard are firmly in the top 5. With 2,000 points at stake in Singapore over the next ten days, expect some movement in the rankings soon. Once you skip Chuqin’s 3700-point lead, the next four positions are vulnerable to change, with Calderano only 175 points ahead of Shidong and only 35 points behind Shidong, Harimoto and Moregard. Any of these players could be No. 2 in March with a good performance in Singapore.
Outside of the Top 25, a number of players have seen ranking changes in recent weeks. Oh Junsung only moved up one spot, but that brought him into the Top 20 (from number 21 to number 20). Ovtcharov moved up two places to number 23, jumping above American Kanak Jha, who is now number 24. French youngsters Poret and Coton each moved up, with Thibault Poret rising in ninth place to number 26 and Flavien Coton four positions to number 28.
The biggest jump is that of Lubomir Jancarik of the Czech Republic, who rose 134 places to a career-best No. 40. Other notable changes include Sathiyan Gnanasekaran moving up 8 spots to No. 43, Park Ganghyeon moving up 31 spots to No. 45, and Joe Seyfried gaining 10 spots and breaking the Top 50 for the first time at No. 48.
