The Rangers have selected the contract of right -handed Carl Edwards Jr. From Triple-a Round Rock, according to several Beat writers. To create space on both the 28-man and the 40-man grilles, Texas designed right-handed Caleb Boushley for assignment.
The 2025 season of Edwards consisted of two main class matches with the Angels, a short stint in the Mexican league and 15 games (and 50 2/3 total innings) at the Triple-A level with the top philatels of the Angels’ and Rangers. His time in Mexico then ended the Rangers Edwards in July inks on a minor league contract, and today’s selection is something of a complete circle moment in the veteran’s career. Texas set up Edwards in the 48th round of the 2011 design, but he never appeared in a big league match in a Rangers -Uniform, because the team applied him to the Cubs prior to the 2013 Trade Deadline.
After making his MLB debut with Chicago in 2015, Edwards became a staple of the bullpen of the Cubs during the 2016-18 seasons, but success was much more sporadic for Edwards in the intervening years. Since the opening day 2019, Edwards has thrown at seven different teams at the Major League level, with a 4.28 ERA of more than 124 innings in that nomadic piece. The contributions of the Righty to the last two seasons consisted of just one game with the Padres in 2024, and then two games with the Angels were earlier this year.
The 5.31 ERA from Edwards over 39 innings at Round Rock does not jump off the page, but its strike output of 26%, 7.7% running speed and 53.6% grounder rate are tastier. The Grounder-Heavy Arsenal has contributed to that inflated era, because Edwards has a bad luck .362 Babip with the Triple-A-club of the Rangers. Although Edwards is best known as a Reliever, he tried to reinvent himself as a starter during his time in the Mexican competition and in the minors, and he started seven of his eight games in Round Rock.
The Rangers used six different pitches in the 11-0 loss of yesterday for the Astros, so Edwards is most likely raised as an inner-eating long relief option instead of as a candidate for the rotation. If Edwards happens to start a place, this would make the first start of his 11-year-old Major League career.
Boushley was one of the pitchers who took the hill in yesterday’s routes and was hit hardest, leaving five points to the Astros in a collection of auxiliary work. If this DFA marks the end of Boushley’s time with the Rangers, he has booked his stint with five-run performances, because he was also touched for Five in 3 2/3 innings in his debut in Texas on 12 April.
More than 43 2/3 innings This season, Boushley has an ugly 6.02 ERA but a much more respectable 3.81 Siera. Some bad collision-bell check (.358 Babip) is the culprit, not to mention a strict percentage of 58.7%. Boushley’s 7.3% hiking percentage and 21.2% strikeout rate have been properly, so a rival team that explores the exemption wire can be interested in the services of the right side. Boushley has two more minor League options on, so a distance explanation can now be designed more to add an auxiliary depth for 2026 than the rest of the 2025 campaign.
BOUSHLEY had only thrown 6 1/3 big league-innings before 2025, and he has a 4.60 ERA over 503 1/3 innings (from 97 of 105 games) at the Triple-A level. He has an earlier outright on his CV, so if he knew exemptions, Boushley has the right to reject Round Rock an outright assignment and to choose a free agency instead.
