Even if it is a glorified pre-season game, it is so nice to have Rangers hockey back. It is time to look to the future and never look back on the disaster that was the 2024-2025 season. With the upcoming talent that was shown last night, I am genuinely enthusiastic about the future of the Rangers and writing these Rangers Rookie Series Recaps. Last night some main cratchers, but in general the players you expected looked good to look good. Others on our radar also had a number of good moments.
The Flyers Stream Wasn’t the best, so it was hard to keep track of who was who. But even with those struggles, Adam Sykora was the striking player last night. His calling card is his high motor, lecturing pre -check and a power to find open space when needed. Sykora skated like his life departed every time he was on the ice, and was a big disruptor every time he took advantage of the defense of the flyers.
Sykora caused sales on the defense of the flyers and was able to make some plays, but unfortunately the Rangers could not get the Puck past Carson Bjarnason. When Sykora brings this energy to the camp and the regular season, who knows what the future has in store.
Another player who really impressed me who scored a goal in the game was Dylan Roobrock. After 20 goals in Hartford last year he was the Rangers Next Best Player, won a number of important face-offs and presented a capacity to play a two-way game. His goal probably won’t sneak past an AHL goalkeeper, but at that moment it raised the Rangers 2-0 early.
Despite the fact that Jusso parsen is under contract, I think that management hopes deep in Rangers that one of Roobrock or Noah Laba is fighting for that 3C spot on the NHL schedule. Both Laba and RoRobock are planned to start in the AHL, but if they make an impression, they can be in the middle season.
This might have just been a bad night, but I was not impressed by Scott Morrow. After a pretty solid first period, the rest of the game was a lot of missed passes, poor defensive lectures and a bad turnover that led to a short goal against. He was on the ice for three goals, including the OT winner.
It was one game, and these are quite meaningless after 2 days in the camp and little to no experience playing with each other. It is better to concentrate on the positive, and hope that Morrow discovers it in the camp. He is still a player to watch. Sykora may also surprise people in the camp if he continues to play like this.
