Rangers Rookie Series Recap: Othmann, Morrow, Tung set up a show in Allentown

After lost in OT the night before, the NY Rangers outlook reacted with a dominant 5-2 victory over the prospects of the flyers. Brennan Othmann had a fantastic outing with 3 assists, Gabe Perreault had an important primary power play assist and the empty neat to put the game away, Scott Morrow had 2 assists and Callum Tung stopped 21 of 23 shots for the victory. The large weapons showed up and put their stains like the top boys in the Rookie series.

Morrow in particular had a great redemption game and looked very calm with the puck on his stick. You can very well give and take with a player like Morrow. While he is developing in the Rangers system, he could be a man who is able to score many points, but is also on the ice when goals are scored.

Morrow was at the top combination for both games and stood in line for 20+ minutes ice age. That will clearly not be the case if he makes the Rangers, so the organization will be able to protect him a bit if he completes his play. The big decision for the Rangers will find out if it is more useful for him to play third few minutes with the Rangers or Top-two minutes with the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Brennan Othmann shone again, because his three assists gave him a final line of 1-4-5 in both games. For those who remember it, this was very reminiscent of the 3 goals of Adam Edstrom in 2 matches Last Rookie tournament. I hope this is the Spring Board that Othmann has to come to camp confidently and is ready to become a full -time NHL player. The team could use its skills in the line -up, but more importantly, the team needs him to be a productive player.

As one Former First Round Pick And the very first choice of Chris Drury, this is the year that he has to take the next step, and the Rangers must enable him to do this. The vision he had on some of the goals in this game was very encouraging to look at, especially on a where he made a beautiful Royal Road Pass to Noah Laba on a 2-on-1. We know that Othmann’s pedigree is his chance, but he is also a lowkey really good playmaker.

The Rangers needed another solid goalkeeper’s perspective behind Dylan Garand, and it seems that Callum Tung is that guy. The club is clearly very much in the net before the near future with Igor Shesterkin, and now it seems that Tung and Garand may compete to fill Jonathan Quick’s backup area for next season. Ideally, one or both follow the cam Talbot/Alex Georgiev -which presents enough as a backup to achieve a nice return in a subject. Although Hartford should be a much better team with him and Garand in Net for the time being.

Both games were great teasers of what will come soon. Camp and pre-season hockey are almost here, with the opener against Pittsburgh not far behind. Both Rookie games were encouraging and it shows that the children can at least force the veterans to appear to the camp. The Rangers may not have a top perspective system at the moment, but their top boys will insist on the middle of the line -uprollen in the very near future.
