Rangers appoint Rohl as Martin’s successor – Soccer News

Rangers have found their new head coach, appointing Danny Rohl on an initial two-and-a-half-year contract.

Rohl replaces Russell Martin, who was fired on October 5 after an ill-fated 123-day spell as the club’s manager.

Martin oversaw just one win in the Scottish Premier League and saw his side crash out of the Champions League after a 9-1 aggregate defeat to Club Brugge in a qualifying play-off.

Rohl’s appointment ends a two-week search for a new boss, with former head coach Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat reportedly turning down the chance to take over.

The German had previously been linked with Rangers in their search for a new head coach, but withdrew from consideration before signing his contract.

“It is a huge privilege to join an incredible club, recognized around the world,” said Rohl.

“I know it’s been a tough start to the season, but there’s still so much to play for.

“The expectations here are clear. The fans want to see results now – my mentality and experience is to think exactly the same way.

“We have no time to waste; we will start straight away. I respect that trust is earned and understand that we have to give the supporters confidence in what we are doing by showing that on the pitch from the start.”

Rohl’s only previous managerial role was at Sheffield Wednesday between October 2023 and June 2025, when he left amid off-field issues.

In the Championship, he oversaw 81 games, averaging 1.3 points per game during that time. He won 30 of his matches (D18 L33), finished with a win percentage of 37% and avoided relegation twice.

Rangers are sixth in the Scottish Premiership after eight games, 13 points behind leaders Hearts. Rohl’s first game in charge is away at Brann in the Europa League on Thursday.
