The New York Rangers will be an obvious team to watch once the NHL roster freeze is lifted. The Rangers are one of the NHL’s top sellers, having already traded Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings and Carson Soucy to the New York Islanders. But now that the Rangers have been retooled, they shouldn’t be done yet.
Braden Schneider is one of the Rangers who has generated a lot of talk leading up to the 2026 NHL trade deadline. Since the 2020 first-round pick is a big right defenseman who is only 24 years old, he should have several suitors.
So let’s take a look at three teams looking to acquire Schneider before the deadline.
Boston Bruins
The Bruins could be a team to watch when it comes to Schneider. It’s no secret that the Bruins are looking to improve the right side of their blueline, as they made a big push on Rasmus Andersson before the Calgary Flames traded him to the Vegas Golden Knights. While Schneider doesn’t produce the same type of offense as Andersson, he could still give the Bruins a much-needed boost at their second pairing if he is acquired.
Dallas stars
The Stars could undoubtedly use another right shot defenseman on their roster. Their right side could use another solid option, so it would make sense for them to pursue Schneider. At the very least, he would boost the Stars’ bottom pairing, but he could also be a fit on their second pairing and penalty kill if acquired.
Ottawa Senators
The Senators stand out as another team in need of help on the right side of their blueline. One wonders if this would help Schneider get their attention. He would give them another young blueliner with breakout potential, which wouldn’t be a bad thing for a Senators club that has struggled this season.
