Below Heather and Ella report about this event.

Website -Presentations

The day started with a meeting of years 7-9 (age 11-14, about 50 students), the school teachers and guests. Students from the years 8 and 9 (Age 12-14) presented websites they had made Distil As part of their year 8 lessons.

The girls had worked in small groups to design a website for a fantasy online store. This made a lot of creativity possible when designing logos, selecting photos and writing marketing content. The students unveiled their love for makeup, fashion, animals and more. A few highlights for us were a sweet treat store (very professionally looking!), A site about snow leopards (presented with great humor!) And a store that promotes Afghan fashion (beautiful photos!).

Each group gave a short speech and with a live demo. We were impressed that the girls had a grip on Github and the editing of the R -Markdown -Bron.

Computer practical

After a break, we accepted a lesson given by Anisa Nawaz to students of the year 7. It was only their second lesson with the help of R and they learned how to make sequences seq()Working in a R -Markdown template.

Together with other guests we helped by helping the students to assist problems. Insight into how you can generate decreasing sequences with a negative by The argument required thinking a little, while breaking R breakdown chunks by typing code in the wrong place caused some practical problems. But the girls did well!

Summary

In general we were happy to see the enthusiasm of both staff and students in the use of R to support the girls’ studies. There is a lot of pride of this activity, as shown by the display that greets you when you enter:

A notice board visible on the face wall, looking through an open door. On the board, a display with a flowery border, entitled 'R-Girls Schools Network', followed by the Pink R Girls logo. The display has examples of code and graphs, plus large text boxes with information.

The r -girls show directly within the main entrance

Hopefully this experience gives the girls a positive picture of the use of R or other languages, which they can build on in the future.
