The annual one American play-offs for the 14U Les Petits As The tournament, scheduled for the last week of January 2026, continues this week in Miami, with the quarterfinals now taking place following the completion of round robin play today. Only one of the boys quarterfinalists did not seed, Evan Fan, while all eight seeded girls advanced to the quarterfinals.

Above are the players who advanced from each of the four round robin groups, but the quarter-final draws have been re-seeded based on the results of the round robin stage, with Kapanadze now topping the girls’ draw, while Kulman retains his top spot in the boys’ draw. Officially, the top three finishers get direct entry into the main draw of Les Petits As, but usually all four are included. If that doesn’t happen in 2026, the fourth-place semifinalists will receive a qualifying wildcard.

Last week the ITF announced that the Wheelchair Tennis Junior Masters will move to the Orange Bowl of Les Petits As this year. This means a switch from indoor hard courts to green clay, with the tournament scheduled for Thursday, December 11 to Sunday, December 14. The ITF will also organize a development camp the week before the Orange Bowl, where wheelchair legend Diede De Groot will be present to guide and coach the juniors. The ITF World Tennis Tour Junior Finals start next week in China, with three Americans participating in the eight-player draws: Kristina Penickova, Jack Kennedy and Benjamin Willwerth.

Penickova has been playing in Asia for several weeks now leading up to this event, reaching the semi-finals of the Osaka J500, winning the J200 in Korea and now competing in the W35 in Huzhou, China. Using the ITF’s junior exemption program for entry, Penickova defeated No. 2 seed Kristina Dmitruk of Belarus, the 2021 US Open girls finalist, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 in the first round. She will face former Michigan standout Amy Zhu in the second round on Thursday.

At the W35 in Quebec City, Canada15-year-old Maggie Sohns earned her first main draw victory in a Pro Circuit tournament today, defeating Adriana Reami (NC State) 6-2, 6-4 in the first round. Sohns, a semifinalist at last week’s PanAm ITF J300, won two qualifying events on Sunday and Monday. She defeated 15-year-old Scarlett Fagan 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 in the first round and qualified for the main draw with a 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 victory over No. 1 qualifying seed Natsuho Arakawa of Japan. Sohns, a native of New York state, will face No. 5 seed Jasmijn Gimbrere of the Netherlands in the second round on Thursday.

Beginning in fall 2026, Florida State University will offer a fully funded PhD/doctoral student position to someone seeking to conduct tennis-specific research and teaching. The position will include elements both in and out of court, including the opportunity for co-authorship publication. College and professional tennis players are encouraged to apply. All applicants must provide a current GRE score and have completed a master’s degree by August 2026. The application deadline is February 15, 2026.
