PSV Eindhoven’s elite 11-month record must be broken by Newcastle United

PSV Eindhoven plays against Newcastle United on Wednesday evening.

The seventh round of the Swiss league stage of the Champions League and everything to play for.

Last season, PSV Eindhoven won the national league with one point ahead of number two Ajax.

The reigning Dutch champions have all but secured another national title, currently 16 points ahead of Feyenoord in a distant second place.

Last season, PSV Eindhoven reached the last sixteen knockout stages of the Champions League, beating the likes of Juventus, Liverpool, Shakhtar Donetsk, Girona and Red Star Belgrade.

While PSV Eindhoven lost to Union SG and Atletico Madrid this time, they drew credibly at Bayer Leverkusen and Olympiacos.

While the leading Dutch club also defeated reigning English champions Liverpool 4-1 AND reigning Italian champions Napoli 6-2!

This is not an easy match for Eddie Howe and Newcastle United…

There is indeed something striking about PSV Eindhoven.

Their away form is even better than their home form.

Newcastle United will have to break a streak of almost eleven months since PSV Eindhoven lost every away match in any competition, including the Champions League.

PSV Eindhoven has this season in all competitions:

Played Played 12 Won 10 Draw 2 Lost 0

In these twelve away games in the Champions League and the Dutch league, PSV Eindhoven scored 32 goals and conceded 11.

So on the road they score an average of 3-1 every away game.

Newcastle United must emulate Go Ahead Eagles, who are the last team to beat a visiting PSV team 3-2.

If Eddie Howe’s side can do this, they will at least be assured of a play-off spot for the last 16, while if they also win at PSG they will most likely automatically progress to the last 16.

In the six Champions League games that PSV has played this season, a total of 26 goals have been scored (15 scored by PSV and 11 by opponents), which equates to more than four goals per match.

Wednesday evening will not be goalless!
