Earlier today, Barcelona discovered their opponents for the competition phase of the UEFA Champions League this season, and they have drawn up a number of big names.
Although most of the draw is relatively easy for the Catalans, they in particular play the defensive UCL champions PSG and the defensive FIFA Club World Cup champions Chelsea in the competition phase, making it an interesting schedule for them.
In addition to PSG and Chelsea, the Blaugrana also signed Club Brugge, Eintracht Frankfurt, Olympiacos, Slavia Praha, Newcastle United and FC Copenhagen.
PSG President’s judgment
After the media spoke after the Champions League trek, Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi was asked his thoughts about pulling Barcelona in the competition and where he looked forward to in the game.
He admitted that it would be an exciting matchup between two of the best teams in world football at the moment.
“Barcelona vs PSG? It’s a match that everyone is looking forward to. Two great clubs, we have a lot of respect for Barça. They are a great club, but we too,” he said through UEFA TV.
The most deserved UEFA Champions League final from last season was perhaps Barcelona vs PSG-a competition that never happened because of the failure of the Catalans to have a decisive lead with minutes in the semi-final versus Inter Milan.
Nobody will know what would have happened if the last minutes in San Siro had disappeared otherwise, but it is clear that the game would have been more competitive than the final final.
Now the world gets the chance to see the two best teams on the planet come across, and it will be in Catalonia that the collision will take place. Needless to say, Hansi Flick and Co. will be determined to prove that they are the better side.
