The Proton Saga is the longest running and best -selling nameplate of the company since it was already launched on July 9, 1985. In three generations, the Saga is always produced in Shah Alam, but it seems that this has now come to an end.
Posting of different proton staff and dealers on social media shows that the production of the current Saga of the third generation MC2 ended in Proton’s Shah Alam factory, with the last unit with Chassis #454321 rolls of De Lijn on 26 September 2025.
This has been expected for a while, as the company said last July that it is planning to move the Saga production to Tanjong Malim in 2026. This was mentioned in an announcement in which Proton said that the RM253 is investing million to set up two new stamp lines to increase the stamping volume of parts.
Consolidating the production to a single location has been in Proton’s plans since the agreement between DRB-HICOM and Zhejiang Gene was signed in 2017. At the time, the company said that it would completely move its Shah Alam activities to Tanjong Malim within the next five years, although it is understandable that the global pandemic affected this timeline in 2020.
The end of the Saga production in Shah Alam comes a few days after it was revealed that the production of the Iriz ended in Tanjong Malim of the company on September 9, 2025. In contrast to the hatchback, the Saga will still have a future when the production of the MC3 starts in Tanjong Malim.
At this point it is still to look at what will happen to the Shah Alam factory of Proton, which is no longer responsible for producing a proton vehicle. The Saga was previously accompanied by the Exora, who saw his production in Shah Alam ending in October 2023.
