Proton Saga MC3 is proposed in a hatchback version – rumor has it that the AMA platform is modular, is there an MPV, SUV? – paultan.org

Proton’s latest hatchback, the Iriz, was rumored to have been discontinued last September. However, there are rumors that the AMA platform that underpins the recently unveiled Proton Saga MC3 is designed as a modular platform, meaning it could also form the basis for other models such as hatchbacks, MPVs and even SUVs.

So there’s a possibility we could see the Saga produced in a Hatchback version to replace the Iriz? What will it look like later? This is the digital shadow of the Proton Saga Hatchback, produced by local car manipulation expert Theophilus Chin.

To create this shadow, the real Theo used the rear cabin area of the Honda City Hatchback, which is matched to the ‘head’ of the Saga MC3. The wheelbase of the Saga has not been changed, but the rear section of the City has been adapted to the wheelbase and original height of the Saga.

The shape of the lines on the door is also made to resemble the real Saga door. While sitting in the back, Theo also brought Saga LED lights from the sedan to replace the City Hatchback lights, making it look like a real Saga Hatchback.

Proton Saga MC3 is proposed in a hatchback version - rumor has it that the AMA platform is modular, is there an MPV, SUV?

If this Saga Hatchback actually goes into production in the future, it could still take on Iriz’s competitor, the Perodua Myvi, as it comes with a new i-GT BHE15 PFI 1.5-litre four-cylinder NA engine producing 120 PS of power and 150 Nm of peak torque, paired with a choice of CVT and 4AT automatic gearboxes.

As for the CVT version, it is announced that it can achieve a fuel consumption of only 4.9 liters/100 km, close to the consumption of the Myvi 1.5L, which is 4.7 liters/100 km. The new Saga also comes with improved safety features with six airbags.

It also comes with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), but it is still non-functional cruise control adaptive and any autonomous steering control remains in the lane, making the system only Level 1, compared to the Myvi which is recognized as having a Level 2 ADAS system.

If Proton really produces this Saga Hatchback, do you think it is a good alternative and can reduce Myvi’s dominance in the local B-segment hatchback market?

Back to the Saga MC3 sedan, this model has yet to be launched, but we already had the chance to turn around and test drive this model in Tanjong Malim a few weeks ago – you can read the full details of this model at THIS LINK, and a quick test drive review you can read at THIS LINK. Proton starts booking tonight at 7:30 PM and the estimated price will probably also be announced.
