Proton New Energy Technology (Pro-Net), a subsidiary of Proton, has announced that the Proton EMAS 7 in August 2025 is the best-selling electric vehicle (EV) of Malaysia. With reference to registration data from the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the company said that a total of 5,455 units of the electric SUV locally sold in the first eight months of the year.
The EMAS 7 has been running the monthly EV sales charts since the beginning of 2025 for eight months consecutive months, with Pro-Net stated that with a market share of 24%almost one in four EVs sold is an EMAS 7. In the meantime, the export of EMAS 7 has reached 356 units so far, with the electric SUV that is currently being sent to four international markets.

Next for EMAS 7 is the delivery of locally assembled (CKD) units after the launch of the new EV facility of Proton in Tanjong Malim. The model was initially introduced as a fully imported (CBU) EV from China to meet the early demand.
The EV factory of Proton is located in the Automotive High Technology Valley (AHTV) and has a first annual capacity of 20,000 vehicles, with the possibility of scaling up to 45,000 units as demand grows. The EMAS 7 is the first EV to be assembled there, with the upcoming EMAS 5 set that will be added later.
