Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), a vocal cryptocurrency and Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) announced on Friday that she will not stand for re-election next year.
‘A sprinter in a marathon’
In a statement released after the Senate adjourned for the holidays, Lummis said: “The decision not to run for re-election represents a change of heart for me, but during the difficult, exhausting weeks of the legislative session this fall, I have come to accept that I do not have six years left in me.”
Lummis added that she felt like a “sprinter in a marathon” and that the energy required did not match.
The senior Republican said it was an “honor” to represent Wyoming in the Senate and also acknowledged the president’s “support” Donald Trump during her entire term of office.
Crypto Executives Thank Lummis
Industry leaders expressed their gratitude to Lummis for its support. Cardano (CRYPTO:ADA) co-founder Charles Hoskinson said it was a “great honor and a lot of fun” to work with Lummis.
Emilie Choichairman and COO of Coin basedescribed Lummis as a “legend” and thanked her for “amazing” service.

Crypto Credentials from Lummis
Lummis was elected to the Senate in the 2020 elections, becoming the first woman to represent Wyoming in the upper chamber of Congress.
Lummis’ tenure will be defined by her advocacy for Bitcoin, stablecoins and other blockchain technologies. She has also pushed for the establishment of clear regulatory frameworks for the industry in the US
She proposed a bill to acquire 1 million BTC over five years, with a 20-year holding period, using Federal Reserve transfers and other financial instruments, without relying on taxpayer financing.
Lummis also played a key role in the Senate crypto market structure bill in an effort to build bipartisan consensus on the matter.
