Prince Harry has reportedly extended an invitation to his father, King Charles, to visit his family’s $14.65 million ($A20.9 million) Montecito mansion during the monarch’s upcoming trip to the US.

Harry, 41, is “desperately” hoping that Charles, 77, will find time in the schedule for his planned April visit abroad to make the trip to California, where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have lived since 2020. Broker reports.

Charles and his eldest son, Prince William, will both travel to the US in separate trips to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary – and to discuss a major trade deal that was put on “pause” by President Donald Trump, according to reports The Guardian.

However, The sun Harry hopes his father will also make time for a much more personal milestone: spending time with grandchildren Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, whom he hasn’t seen since 2022.

“Harry has made it clear that he would love it if his father came to visit him and his family,” said an insider.

“He knows they are tense, but he has expressed hope several times that his father can have a relationship with his grandchildren.”

Full details of Charles’ visit to the US have not yet been released. However, reports indicate that discussions about the trip are currently underway – and that Charles is expected to meet with Mr Trump.

Meanwhile, William is said to be planning his own trip later this year to coincide with the World Cup, which kicks off in June in the US, Canada and Mexico.

It is unclear whether William has made or will make plans to see his younger brother, from whom he has been estranged for years.

In recent years, Harry has avoided taking his children to Britain on the short trips he made to his home country after his taxpayer-funded security was revoked by the government — a move he said jeopardized the safety of his children and his wife, Meghan Markle.

Meanwhile, Charles has been unable to make major trips abroad since early 2024, when he was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer.

However, the British monarch revealed at the end of 2025 that his cancer treatment will be placed in a ‘precautionary phase’, which will give him much more freedom in terms of his official and personal obligations.

Harry may be hoping that a reunion with his father at his home in Montecito would give them much more privacy than a highly publicized meeting at the king’s residences in Britain.

Privacy and security are said to have been one of Harry and Meghan’s top priorities as they searched for their perfect home in the US, having moved to California full-time shortly after quitting their roles as senior working royals in March 2020.

Interestingly, the couple came across their sprawling abode in a very realistic way – by scouring online home listings.

“We were searching in this area, and this house kept popping up in searches online,” Meghan told The Cut of their house hunting process during a 2022 interview.

Meghan admitted that she and Harry were initially concerned that they wouldn’t be able to afford the house, noting that they were both unemployed at the time.

“We didn’t have a job, so we just weren’t going to come see this house. That wasn’t possible,” she said.

“It’s like when I was younger and you were shopping – it’s like, ‘I don’t want to go and look at all the things I can’t afford – that doesn’t feel right’.”

However, her fascination with the nine-bedroom, 16-bathroom estate won out and they went to see the house in person – with Meghan revealing they fell in love with it before they even set foot inside.

“One of the first things my husband saw when we walked through the house were those two palm trees,” she remembers.

“We did everything we could to get this house.”

Since then, both Meghan and Harry have relaxed their boundaries when it comes to sharing glimpses of the property – even going so far as to reveal videos and photos of their two children playing in the grounds of the house.

Meghan’s Instagram account, which she relaunched on January 1, 2025, is now peppered with candid snaps and clips of her children, which even featured on the couple’s Christmas card, which featured a heartwarming image of the family posing in what appears to be their backyard.

The photo shows the Sussexes standing on a small wooden bridge over a natural creek as Harry hugs his son Archie, who in turn has his arms around his father’s waist.

Meanwhile, Meghan can be seen leaning towards her daughter as the two hold hands while smiling at each other.

Lush greenery and tall trees can be seen in the background of the family photo.
