Premier League referees will take a stricter approach for Set-piece Grab and simulation in the coming season 2025/26.
These official changes are part of a broader Klemdown aimed at improving honesty and consistency throughout the entire competition.

Matchambagen have been instructed to punish incidents in which players use both arms to hold an opponent, to fully concentrate on marking a player instead of disputing the ball, or where holding clearly limits the movement of an attacker.
For mistakes in the penalty area, referees will grant a spot kick, with VAR checks that confirm the decision whether it is overthrowing if there is a clear and obvious error.
The move follows on feedback from Premier League clubs, which believe that officializing in the past seasons had been too flexible about Set-piece Grasp. Players have already been informed about the change.
Stricter measures on simulation
Civil servants have also told to take a stronger position on diving and exaggerating contact, especially when a player goes down, despite the fact that contact with another part of the body is.
This is part of a wider push to reduce simulation and improve the reputation of the competition for sporting integrity.
Var -interventions are limited
Although enforcement will be tighter on the field, the VAR protocol will still maintain a high threshold for overthrowing referee decisions.
Last season the average VAR delay fell to 39 seconds, compared to 64 seconds in 2024/25.

New technology and communication
In the new season, semi-automated offside technology is used that are used in the Premier League, with repetitions on TV and stadium large screens.
Referees will also announce VAR decisions about the PA system stage -except for a simple offside/aside.
