Predicted Newcastle team vs Liverpool in the Premier League tonight

2 minutes, 21 seconds Read

Watching this Newcastle team against Liverpool.

Eddie Howe’s side will be looking to build on their excellent performance against PSG in midweek.

Before last Sunday’s defeat to Aston Villa, Newcastle were also on a run of 10 points from a possible 12 in their last four Premier League matches.

If United win, they will rise above Liverpool in the Premier League.

The last time Eddie Howe played Liverpool away from St James’ Park was at Wembley on March 16, 2025, when Arne Slot’s side were fortunate to lose only 2-1.

As a reminder, this was Newcastle’s team against PSG three nights ago:

Pope, Miley, Thiaw, Botman, Branden, Hal, Tonali, Ramsey, Willock, Elanga, Woltemade

Joelinton, Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth will certainly not be there today.

Eddie Howe made it clear after the midweek match that Bruno was not an option to come off the bench against PSG, he was only there to support the team. The Head Coach said on Friday that it was unknown whether his talisman could be available today as he recovers from an ankle problem.

Jacob Murphy and Will Osula were unused substitutes in Paris and so should hopefully be available today if needed, to play a role, even if only from the bench.

If you take all that into consideration…

This is my predicted Newcastle team vs Liverpool:

Pope, Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Branden, Hal, Tonali, Ramsey, Gordon, Barnes, Woltemade

If the above comes to fruition, it would mean three changes for Eddie Howe from the team that started against PSG.

Coming in – Trippier, Gordon, Barnes

Dropping out – Miley, Willock, Elanga

Eddie Howe, as always, has the challenge of balancing so many games with a limited number of players.

It’s no surprise that Howe sticks with Thiaw, Burn and Botman on this, as it worked well on Wednesday. As long as he is physically able, Hall will remain on the left, although after the break I think Trippier will move back in on the right.

I don’t see Bruno taking a risk in the starting XI. In fact, I’d be surprised if he came off the bench, with the percentage call to give him time and hopefully okay for Man City on Wednesday.

I think Jacob Ramsey is putting together a string of performances now and was very good against PSG.

Joe Willock also impressed in that Champions League match, but I can see him and Elanga making way for Gordon and Barnes, who only played the last 25 minutes against PSG but almost came together late in the game to win the game.

Nick Woltemade also did well and I can see him starting again at the center of the attack and Barnes and Gordon were given plenty of freedom to play across the attacking third and support him.
