Predicted Newcastle team v Spurs has these five changes

Watching this Newcastle team against Spurs.

Eddie Howe’s side are looking to bounce back from Saturday’s Premier League defeat against Brentford.

That loss to the Bees marked a third successive defeat for Newcastle United.

If United win they will be seven points above Spurs in the Premier League.

At the same time, Eddie Howe and his players could then look up the table again, in the hope of possibly closing the above clubs.

As a reminder, this was the Newcastle team against Brentford three nights ago:

Pope, Trippier, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Tonali, Bruno, Willock, Barnes, Jacob Murphy, Wissa

On Monday, Eddie Howe said there is no way Joelinton will make this Spurs match. However, he raised the possibility that Anthony Gordon and/or Lewis Miley could return to the matchday squad depending on how they were physically in training on Monday.

Joelinton, Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth are all certainly not involved tonight.

If you take all that into consideration…

This is my predicted Newcastle team vs Spurs:

Pope, Miley, Botman, Burn, Hall, Tonali, Bruno, Willock, Gordon, Elanga, Woltemade

If the above comes to fruition, it would mean five changes for Eddie Howe from the team that started against Brentford.

Coming in – Burn, Miley, Gordon, Elanga, Woltemade

Dropping out – Trippier, Thiaw, Wissa, Barnes, Murphy

Of course, this depends on whether both Anthony Gordon and Lewis Miley have recovered sufficiently from their injuries, but if they have, they can certainly start.

Trippier looked devastated on Saturday and Miley would come in at right-back, while Gordon would certainly start ahead of me as well. I thought Newcastle really missed his pace and willingness to run into the opposition. In addition, Archie Gray had to fill in at right-back due to injuries and could struggle with pace.

Speaking of pace, I think Anthony Elanga will definitely start too. He was one of our better players when he came on against Brentford and has started to look good recently, while that great solo goal against Man City will have boosted his confidence.

Yoane Wissa struggled on Saturday and although Nick Woltemade has dipped in form since a great start to his Newcastle career in the early months, I think he can get back into form tonight and find more joy against a Spurs side that is giving the opposition more space and time on the ball. Just two weeks ago Big Nick played very well against PSG and there is no reason to write him off yet!!

I’m not sure if Dan Burn wasn’t 100% physical on Saturday when he was named to the bench, but I’d like to see him start alongside Sven Botman. Malick Thiaw needs a break I think as mental fatigue affected him (in my opinion) against Liverpool and he wasn’t great against Man City. Although he generally did well, alongside Botman, against Thiago and Brentford, further evidence of the mental fatigue affecting him as he failed to cover when Brentford scored their winning goal.
