Porsche’s new key fob configurator has numerous options

An afternoon messing around with a car configurator is a great way to pass the time during a short vacation week, especially when a car manufacturer gives you hundreds of thousands of options to choose from. Porsche’s configurator is usually quite extensive, and that also applies to the new Cayenne EVs. But there is an interesting detail hidden in it: A key ring configurator.

Porsche has offered custom key fobs to customers in the past, and granted, you can customize your key fob for other models, like the Macan EV. But the options on the Cayenne EV’s key fob configurator are crazy. With that, my goal was to create the tackiest, flashiest keychain you could imagine. Based on the photos you see here: Mission accomplished.

Under the “Interior” section, where it says “Keys, floor mats and owner’s manual wallets,” Porsche gives you three different customizable key fob options to choose from. The first is a standard painted car key with a leather pouch. Clicking on the ‘Personalise’ tab gives you twelve different, rather subdued, color options for the key itself, your choice of leather or Race-Tex for the cover and some stitching colors for the lanyard. That’s about it. That option will cost you an additional $510.

For the same price, the personalized car key gives you a few more shades to choose from, but it’s still not too impressive. It’s not until you select the custom car key option for $770 that your cup will be overflowing with colors, textures and possibilities.

You can choose from three materials for the upper shell: Leather, Race-Tex or paint. If you opt for paint, Porsche has a range of 16 colors to choose from, including some crazy options like Ruby Star Neo or Python Green. In this case I chose the latter.

The bottom shell has the same material and paint options, plus a few more. In this case, choosing leather on the lower shell unlocks Aquamarine Blue, the color you see here. As far as we know there are no combination limits, which is a good thing.

Once you’ve selected the colors for your outer shell, you can move on to the actual keychain itself. Even here, Porsche lets you personalize the upper and lower shell in leather, Race-Tex or paint, with no fewer than 16 options. In the name of science, let’s go with orange leather on the top half and Guards Red paint on the bottom half. Sweet.

The key case has 12 color options for the top portion and another 14 shades for the pinstripe. Limestone Beige and Ruby Star Neo is an excellent combination for my money. For the cord you can choose between Porsche or Cayenne text, with five subtle shades. For this exercise we choose Red.

The actual lanyard itself has a further 12 color options, while the accent stitching features 19 different color options. The end result is something Porsche probably doesn’t want us to post online.

Of course, you don’t have to go to extremes like we did; Porsche offers thousands of tasteful combinations to match the atmosphere of your next electric Cayenne. But if you really want to go crazy, you can, assuming you have an extra $770 to spend on top of the starting price of $111,350 for the new Cayenne EV.
