One of only two private homes on Hayman Island has been named this month’s most iconic property listing on realestate.com.au.
Beach dreams fuel the hearts of Australians – those watery views, the sound of the waves, the cool breezes and the soothing dips make coastal areas the ultimate home and status symbol.
So when we asked viewers to choose the most iconic beach house in the latest realestate.com.au ‘iconic list’ social media poll, we knew the bar would be sky high.
The winner was a Whitsundays knockout – an eight-bathroom, six-bedroom modernist architectural masterpiece that is one of only two private residences on Hayman Island.
With an asking price of around $25 million, 1 Raintree Avenue, Whitsundays is a spectacular mix of concrete, glass and wood. It features a serene, minimalist interior, a basalt infinity pool and expansive walls of glass that offer views of the Coral Sea and nearby islands from almost every room.

The bright and spacious three-storey house, designed by internationally renowned architect Kerry Hill, gives each bedroom an en suite bathroom and balcony, and the master a study, walk-in robe and panoramic views. The large living room opens onto a breezy open-air terrace, while there are private guest accommodations downstairs.
Located within the InterContinental Hayman Island Resort, the home offers permanent vacation benefits such as 24/7 butler service, private chefs and wellness pampering.
There are also Hayman’s pristine beaches and access to the Great Barrier Reef to enjoy, but as there is little outside the resort there isn’t much in the way of shops, cafes, jobs or neighbours. In addition, you will need a boat or helicopter organized by the resort to reach the mainland.

But WhiteFox Gold Coast agent Nic Whitehead says the island’s isolation isn’t a turnoff for high-net-worth individuals looking for a secluded retreat – it’s an asset.
“They are looking for something that is extremely exclusive and private.”
He said the property attracted a lot of foreign interest during the five months it was on the market.
“It can comfortably accommodate a large number of guests so is ideal for entertaining or events, with private catering available from the resort.

“The pool is ridiculous, with such incredible views of the ocean. It’s like living on your own private island.”
The runners-up had equally impressive coastal locations.

High above the cliffs at the tip of the Ben Buckler headland at North Bondi, the new three-level dazzler of 156 Brighton Boulevard offers six bedrooms, five bathrooms, a flat lawn, a swimming pool and Bondi-to-horizon views from almost every room – for an undisclosed price.
This accommodation at 4 Childe Street is a five-minute drive from the heart of Byron Bay, but feels a world away.

For $30 million, the buyer gets a two-bedroom home plus a one-bedroom studio and plenty of entertainment space to enjoy those aspects – plus a built-in skate ramp.
For ultimate coastal seclusion, the three-bedroom Avalon Coastal Retreat at 11922 Tasman Highway stands proudly on the Rocky Hills headland in south-eastern Tasmania.

Listed at over $4.8 million, this modernist beachside escape stuns with polished concrete floors and walls of glass to enjoy uninterrupted views over the Freycinet Peninsula – plus there’s private access to De Gillern Beach below. What more could you want in a house on the coast?
This month, viewers will vote for Australia’s quirkiest homes, with the winner announced at the end of March.
