After five years of teasers who started the Preceptor concept in 2020, the Polestar 5 is finally here. Polestar’s new flagship Sedan makes his debut today at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, and it is ready to challenge Porsche Taycan and Lucid Air.

Unfortunately, Polestar did not say when, or if, this sedan made by Chinese comes to the US.

When our colleagues at Insideevs Report, the Polestar 5 is built in Chongqing, and engineers say that it is almost impossible to move the tools to another location, because the 5 rides on a customized platform. Chinese EVs are still subject to a BIDen era 100 percent rate, so the Polestar 5 can be priceless here in the US.

In Europe, the Basic Polestar 5 starts at € 119,900 or ($ 140,000 USD), and the price for performance jumps to € 142,900 ($ 167,000).

A tailor -made platform

The 5 is the first tailor -made car from Polestar, because all his earlier efforts on shared Geely platforms reason. It drives on a bound aluminum platform and carries aluminum bodywork. Polestar mainly developed the car in the UK, with a lot of ex-Lotus and McLaren engineers that improve the 5-riding dynamics of the 5.

Both the standard model and the performance use a gross hour (106.0-kk Net) of 112.0 kilowatt hours of nickel-metal-cadmium (NMC) battery. It is also the first 800-Volt architecture of Polestar, which makes 350 kilowatt loading capacities possible. That translates into a claimed charge of 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes. The estimated EPA range for the basic car is 330 miles, while the performance will do 300 miles.

Each Polestar 5 gets an internal developed rear engine combined with a smaller front motor. The base car offers 748 hp and 559 pound-foot torque, while the version increases things to 884 hp and 749 pound-foot. Polestar says that the double basic engine will run from 0-60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds, while the performance will do this in 3.1 seconds and both have a top speed of 155 mph.

The base 5 is on passive dampers, while the performance gets Magneride dampers – the same kind that GM and Ferrari use for a brilliant effect. Both receive a brake system from Brembo with four-piston fixed calipers and two-part rotors for a lower weight.

Swedish minimalism

Polestar regards the 5 as a 4+1, which means that it will be four comfortable or five with a pinch. Inside, it is the Swedish minimalism we expect from Polestar, with a large 14.5-inch portrait center display with a Google-based infotainment system as a focal point.

Just like the Polestar 4, the 5 shuns a traditional rear window for a camera active on the rear -view mirror, something that Polestar says helps with aerodynamics. The company claims an impressive 0.24 towing coefficient, although this is a road from the Lucid Air’s 0.197.

Is the Polestar 5 coming to the US?

Regarding the availability of the US, Polestar said in the 5 press release that the car is “[a]Wegable to order now in selected markets, prices and availability for Noord -America will be announced at a later time. “That is ambiguous, so we contacted Polestar for clarification.

The 5 seems to be a compelling alternative to the Taycan and the air, but rates on Chinese EVs can make it completely unfeasible for the US. Polestar scrambled for 3 production in the South Carolina factory in Volvo and for this reason in South Korea in South Korea.

But for one, with a more expensive, more expensive halo like the 5, it may not be worth it.
