- A new Polestar 4 version will be released later this year.
- The next generation Polestar 2 will be launched in early 2027.
- The compact Polestar 7 will debut in 2028.
- The Polestar 6 roadster will be launched later.
Polestar has had a solid 2025, with retail sales up 34 percent to 60,119 vehicles. Today the Swedish brand outlined its plans for 2026, which include starting deliveries of the 5 this summer.
A new version of the 4, which targets a broader customer base by offering more versatility, will go on sale by the end of the year. Although the statement is rather vague, this new flavor appears to have a rear window, and we’re told it will combine “the space of a station wagon and the versatility of an SUV.” In other words, it’s probably a lifted car.
The next generation 2 will be launched in early 2027. Looking further ahead, Polestar aims to launch the compact crossover 7 in 2028. The most exciting model in the company’s promised lineup is undoubtedly the 6 roadster. We originally saw it as the O2 convertible concept in 2022, when the company said it would launch the production version in 2026.
Unfortunately that doesn’t happen anymore. Engine1 contacted Polestar to ask why the beautiful electric roadster is not among the models in the latest teasers. Theo Kjellberg, Head of Corporate Communications, explained that the company currently has bigger fish to fry:
“The focus is now on completing the Polestar 4 variant, the Polestar 2 successor and the Polestar 7 and bringing it to market. After that, we can switch to the Polestar 6. So according to that logic, not before 2028.”
When news first broke that Polestar would be selling the 6, a sticker price of $200,000 also surfaced, making it the company’s most expensive car ever. As a refresher, the plug-in hybrid Polestar 1 coupe launched in the United States for $156,500 for the 2021 model year. Initially the company said it would only build 500 roadsters, but it later became clear it would increase production if demand proved strong enough to support it.
Because the launch of the 6 is still at least a few years away, Polestar is not releasing technical specifications. The 2+2 concept with retractable roof supported that striking design with impressive figures: 884 hp and 900 Nm from a dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup. It sprinted from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and reached a top speed of 250 km/h.

Taking Motor1s: In terms of product delays, the Polestar 6 is starting to feel more and more like a Tesla Roadster redux. Even in the best-case scenario, the 2028 launch would take place six years after the concept’s debut. Things could be worse, though, as the second-generation Roadster premiered in 2017 and still hasn’t entered production.
Every brand needs a halo model, and the 6 would fit that role perfectly for Polestar. While it would inevitably be a limited-production product, the stunning convertible could do wonders for brand awareness and create a clearer distinction between Polestar and Volvo.
