If you’re into sim racing and spend your weekends chasing lap times in the virtual world, a new car is coming your way. The Polestar 5, the brand new four-door coupe from the Swedish brand, is participating Gran Turismo 7 next December via a free update for PlayStation 4 and 5. Unveiled to fans this weekend at the Gran Turismo World Series in Los Angeles, it is part of a closer collaboration between Polestar and Polyphony Digital, the Japanese studio behind the legendary Gran Turismo franchise.
After the limited edition Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid coupe defined the brand’s design and performance DNA, the 5 pushes that philosophy further with an all-electric four-door GT layout. Fresh from its global debut at the IAA 2025 in Munich, where it headlined as the Scandinavian brand’s most advanced electric car, the Polestar 5 also made waves in a short film starring Alexander Skarsgård. It is a car that combines Polestar’s design and performance philosophy better than any model before. Built on a bonded aluminum chassis, the Polestar 5 produces approximately 870 horsepower from a twin-motor setup.
“I have long been impressed by Polestar’s cars for their sophisticated, sleek and elegant designs, and that’s why I’m excited to work with them to bring the Polestar 5 to Gran Turismo. The Polestar development team has taken great care in creating the car’s driving experience, and I’m sure players will enjoy the experience of driving Gran Turismo.” – Kazunori Yamauchi, producer of the Gran Turismo series
Polyphony Digital is widely recognized for its obsessive attention to realism and detail. Polestar opened the doors of its development center in Sweden. Professional racer and Major tourism champion Igor Fraga worked with Polestar’s Head of Driving Dynamics, Joakim Rydholm, to capture the car’s handling and performance characteristics in practice. They validated the results on the challenging Brands Hatch circuit in England and ensured that the in-game Polestar 5 mirrors its real-world behavior, right down to the steering feedback and throttle response.
This collaboration also marks the start of a multi-year collaboration, paving the way for future Polestar models, such as the upcoming Polestar 6 roadster. Major tourism. To celebrate the launch, a special in-game time trial will give players the chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2025 GT World Finals in Fukuoka, Japan. In addition to the update, a behind-the-scenes documentary will be released on Polestar’s YouTube channel, detailing how two worlds, digital and physical, merged to create one of the most realistic driving experiences ever.
Finally, a very long time Major tourism players should be well aware that this isn’t the first time a Swedish car has graced the series. Previous editions have included the Volvo C30 Polestar, S60 Polestar and even the classic Volvo 240 car, a cult favorite for its boxy charm. The Polestar 5 now continues that legacy, bringing modern Scandinavian performance into the EV era.
