Pocognoli leaves Union Saint-Gilloise to take up role at Monaco – Soccer News

Monaco have confirmed the appointment of Sebastien Pocognoli as their new head coach, replacing Adi Hutter.

The 38-year-old Belgian has signed a contract with Monaco that runs until June 2027.

Pocognoli joins Monaco after a spell at Union Saint-Gilloise. He led the Belgian side to the top title last season and their first campaign in the Champions League.

He has the highest average in points per game (2.12) of all Pro League coaches in the 21st century (he has coached at least 50 games), ahead of Philippe Clement (1.98) and Frank Vercauteren (1.94).

The former Belgium international guided Union SG to a memorable 3-1 win in their Champions League opener against PSV and leaves the reigning Belgian champions at the top of their national table after ten games.

Pocognoli will step into the dugout for the first time when Monaco travel to Angers in Ligue 1 next Saturday. The club have won just one of their last five games in all competitions, with that run resulting in Hutter’s dismissal.
