Itsrockandroll A and Downers Delight were fastest from the wings of the starting gate and approached the quarter pole. Itsrockandroll A, the 4/5 betting favorite, reached the top. Downers Delight accepted the pocket ride.
The ten-year-old warhorse Itsrockandroll A posted a fraction of 27.2 in the opening quarter. Half was achieved in 56 flat, a quarter of 28.3.
Stevens’ Saloon moved out early at the 5/8 mark and worked their way up, parking outside and coverless beyond half. Itsrockanroll A continued to lead the backstretch. Steven’s Saloon drove alongside. Both pacers prepared to do battle and the swords were drawn towards the three-quarter pole. Downers Delight watched the battle from his pocket with satisfaction.
Muskateer Hanover was towed to a second over stalking position and was ready to attack. Sweet Angel Boy joined the battle at the edge in third. The three-quarters left in 1:23.3 to 27.3
At the top of the stretch, Itsrockandroll A was able to put away the pesky Steven’s Saloon. The biggest danger turned out to be Downers Delight. Driver Pat Berry and Downers Delight wound their way past the pylons and won by a neck in 1:51.4. He paid $13.40 for the win. Itsrockandroll A fought hard to finish second and Steven’s Saloon came third.
