PLUS’s JustGo app, which was launched last October to allow users to pay tolls on the North-South Motorway via automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology, is approaching 200,000 downloads, reports The star.
“The PLUS ANPR Open Payment System through JustGo Malaysia enables lane freedom, allowing registered vehicles to enter and exit through any toll lane without being tied to specific payment methods. Transactions are processed automatically as vehicles pass through toll lanes, with payments linked through the JustGo mobile app,” the company said in a statement yesterday.
On February 12, the Ministry of Works, Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) and PLUS Malaysia launched the pilot project to formally introduce the ANPR-based open payment system at the institutional level. PLUS Malaysia was recognized as the first highway operator to implement the system under an ongoing pilot project along the Hutan Kampung-Sungai Dua stretch.
“Under the pilot project, registered users are no longer tied to specific lanes, giving them the flexibility to enter and exit through any toll lane at nine toll plazas: Hutan Kampung, Alor Setar Utara, Alor Setar Selatan, Pendang, Gurun, Sungai Tanjung Utara, Sungai Tani Selatan, Bertam and Sungai Dua,” PLUS said in a Jan. 9 statement, adding that the first phase covers 87.7. km, is an important step towards achieving fast, barrier-free tolling in Malaysia.
“ANPR cameras installed at toll plazas record vehicle license plates, allowing toll charges to be processed automatically through a mobile payment platform linked to the user’s preferred payment method,” PLUS said.
