PlayStation has announced Horizon hunters gatherthe long-rumored multiplayer version of it Horizon action-adventure series.
Developed by Horizon creator Guerrilla Games, Hunters gather is a co-op action game coming to both PS5 and PC with cross-play enabled. (This is separate from mobile and PC Horizon universe MMO which was announced last year by Korean game maker NCSoft.)
In Hunters gatherUp to three players can team up as Hunters to battle the series’ signature dinosaur-like machines. While the art style is more cartoony than the photorealistic main line Horizon games, Guerrilla promises that Hunters gather will feature “tactical, reactive and deeply skill-based” combat that builds on “the tactical precision of the Horizon while embracing the dynamics of team play.” Hunters have different playstyles focused on melee or ranged kits, in addition to a roguelite advantage system.
As part of this announcement, Guerrilla revealed two game modes: Machine Incursion (fighting waves of enemies, including a tough boss) and Cauldron Descent (a multi-stage trial with ever-changing rooms). Interestingly enough, this is what Machine Incursion sounds like War machines‘s Horde Mode, while Cauldron Descent seems like some kind of roguelite dungeon crawler.
Guerrilla says both modes will be available in an upcoming closed playtest the PlayStation Beta Program on PS5 and PC at the end of this month. It should be noted that registration for this program is free, although there is no guarantee that you will be chosen to participate.
Outside of modes like these, the game will also feature a social hub called Hunters Gathering, where you can customize characters, visit vendors, upgrade gear, and connect with other players. The developer also teased a narrative campaign that will be canon to the bigger picture Horizon universe, but it’s keeping more details under wraps for now.
A release window for Hunters gather has not yet been confirmed, with Guerrilla noting that development is “still in its early stages.” That said, the developer promised to make more regular updates and playtest announcements in the coming months.
In particular, we’ve had an idea about it Hunters gather since at least 2023, when alpha images were leaked. At the time, the gameplay was on display Fortnite-like character models, which we now know ultimately turned out to be true. Formerly Guerrilla also teased a third main gamewhich makes sense considering the years 2022 Forbidden West have made one, although it’s unclear when we’ll be able to get it.
The bigger question, however, is how Hunters gather will be honest. In recent years, PlayStation has invested heavily in, and even originally acquired, live service games Destination creator Bungie will help deliver more than ten live service games by 2026.
However, the fruits of all that labor have been mixed so far. In 2024, PlayStation was launched and then removed Treatya new multiplayer IP, in just two weeks. The company also has multiplayer based games The last of us, Twisted metal, Spider Man And God of warnext to others based on new IPs. Additionally, Jade Raymond, the Canadian producer and head of PlayStation-owned Montreal-based Haven, left the studio last year amid rumors of quality issues surrounding the studio’s release. Fairgame$ competitive heist game.
That said, the company has had a lot of success with it Hell divers 2which debuted on PS5 and PC in 2024 and came to Xbox consoles last year. There will also be betting on Bungie next month Marathona revival of the classic science fiction series of the same name.
