Wednesday’s Charles Town card features a mandatory payout in the Jackpot Pick 6, with a transfer of $104,383. That means that a lot of money from others will be offered tonight.
The series starts in the third race of an eight-race program. The card starts at 7:00 PM and the third is scheduled for 7:57 PM.

Here are some thoughts about it:
RACE 3: Maiden special weight, 1 1/16 miles
This is a pretty lukewarm group. The favorite, who should probably be on the ticket, is #7 Amendment, who makes her first start in Kevin Joy’s stable (15% first after the switch). She’s clearly better on grass, but her only previous dirt try was acceptable for this group when she finished fourth at DEL… It doesn’t feel like a lock, though, so we can play with others, including #3 Party Queen, who was back by two good points when second vs. comparable and made her third start from the bench and in the Knudsen barn… #4 Suzies Pride just missed the comparable last out to beat Party Queen, but finished behind those rival three back…
RACE 4: Starting Allowance/Optional Claimer, 6 ½ furlongs
What a match score from last-place #5 Icing, who dueled with number two Moncrief throughout the match before firing away to win in the late stages. He could do it again and could be the top speeder here… #4 No Love for Juba has won five straight against upstart foes, a streak interrupted only by an on-track appearance in the Sam Huff WV Breeders’ Classic when he was at 29-1. That wouldn’t be a surprise… #1 Juba’s Notion is a likely presence, and jockey JD Acosta could steer from the inside box. He beat the same two back and tired late in the last three turns, finishing behind No Love for Juba…
RACE 5: Claim $5,000, 4 ½ furlongs
I was tempted not to use #7 Nothing But Heir, which had a big win last, but that was only seven days ago. It’s rare for coach Runco to return after a short rest, and his record when he does in recent years is 0-for-4, including defeats at 4-5 and 6-5… If not him, then who? Trainer Ronney Brown wins 18% with a slightly positive ROI as first of the claim with horses that won last, and #6 Head of the Class has won two in a row. He’s in a spot where he could make it three, with bugrider Santaella at the top… #3 The Commish is the morning line favorite of two straight wins… #2 Little Lukey gives Brown two bites at the apple…

RACE 6: Claim $5,000, 1 1/16 miles
Nothing so clever here: morning line favorite No. 3 Mo Joke looks like the controlling speed and the best of these. He’s 0-for-2 on the trip, though, so if that bothers you… #4 Summoning Denis offers value. He was mainly in starter company this year and should appreciate an easier group today. He ran big in second against starters four back and has excuses in each of his last three: no shot to beat No Love for Juba three back, hung wide from the outside gate two back, and an off-track (he’s 0-for-11 on off-tracks) last… #6 My Boy Clyde has finished ahead of Summoning Denis in two straights, but was three back behind him…
RACE 7: Allowance, 6 ½ furlongs
#4 Falcon Blue returns to CT, going 2-for-2, after an off-color visit to Laurel. He has won locally both on and off pace, and will probably be a little off today… The other “logical” horse is #6 In the Chase, although he could get caught up as part of the early pace. Someone who probably won’t do that is #8 Blanches Mule, who managed to keep a very difficult group two behind him (with Juba’s Hat Trick and Pascaline) but performed credibly in more manageable fields…
RACE 8: Claim $5,000, 4 ½ furlongs
She’s tipped to beat No. 2 morning line favorite Melancia, dropping from the mullet and making her second start in the Collyer shed, but she’ll be on a lot of tickets, and you’ll have to decide how you feel about not having her if she were to win… #3 Cameo ran hard last, dueling another logical contender into submission before trip-sitters came and collected her in the lane. Her mid-pack draw doesn’t quite force her hand like the railroad pole did last time…
