Plante Jr doubles with Oh Ophelia & Roll The Music

FORT WASHINGTON, MD. — Driver Roger Plante Jr. took top honors Thursday (Nov. 13) at Rosecroft Raceway with a rundown of the evening’s events for fillies and mares running.

Plante started the evening with a 1:55.1 win with Oh Ophelia, whom he also owns and trains, in the $8,500 feature for developing fillies and mares that have won less than eight races. The 3 year old Captain treacherous-Hey Lolly La sprinted to a clear lead from post 7, scoring fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:26.1, and held off a challenge from pocket rival Betty’s Rockin (driven by Frank Milby) to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:55.1.

OH OPHELIA REPEAT

Oh Ophelia, who won this match for the fifth time in her career and her third time in five starts, paid $2.80 to win as a 2-5 favorite.

Plante came back to win the 10th race, the $9,000 feature for top-level conditioned mares, with Katie Callahan trainee Roll The Music. After finishing in third place and stalking 2-1 favorite Pasta Momma (Jonathan Roberts) and Bluebird Ina (Billy Carter) in a half of :55.3, Roll The Music started a first over on the backstretch and held her own in a long battle to beat Pasta Momma by a nose in 1:53.3.

Roll The Music, a 5-year-old Roll With Joe-Puccini Blue Chip mare, has now won three of her last four starts for owner Brian Callahan. The fourteen-time winner paid $8.60 to win 3-1 as the third choice.
