A desperate search for survivors has been launched after a small plane carrying hurricane relief supplies to Jamaica crashed into a lake.
Authorities have said the plane crashed in Coral Springs, Florida, just minutes after taking off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.
The plane took off at 10:14 a.m. local time, said a spokesman for the city of Fort Lauderdale, which owns and operates the local airport.
Five minutes later, Coral Springs police and firefighters arrived at the scene of the crash, the Beaumont Enterprise reported.
Coral Springs Deputy Fire Chief Mike Moser stated, “We also have our police department here with their divers, they will be on a recovery mission soon.
‘During our first dive we could not find any victims or large pieces of hull. We haven’t found a whole plane yet, we think it can be divided into smaller pieces, of course we don’t know that yet, this is just a first step.’
Emergency crews from Coral Springs and Coconut Creek are on scene.

It is currently unknown how many people were on board the plane and there are no known casualties yet.
In their latest update, police said that “no homes sustained major damage.”
