Trade deadline addition Marcus Sasser and Kevin Huerter have not yet secured regular spots in the rotation, but Detroit Pistons head coach JB Bickerstaff said both players should see more opportunities as the schedule intensifies next month.
With a busy stretch ahead, Bickerstaff expects the team’s depth to play a bigger role.
“We’ve had a tough march, right? We’ve got a lot of games in March where everyone gets a chance to play,” he said.
“And because of our depth, we feel confident that with the depth that we have, we can still compete at a high level and give those guys some opportunities to play.”
Sasser logged 11 minutes in Friday’s win over Cleveland, but did not score.
Meanwhile, Isaiah Stewart, who is currently serving a seven-game suspension following a pre-All-Star break altercation with Charlotte, said he models his game after Hall of Famer Ben Wallace, who won four Defensive Player of the Year awards with Detroit.
Stewart called Wallace an example for undersized big men and said he hopes to follow a similar path.
“He paved the way for us undersized guys,” he told ESPN’s Vince Goodwill. “I’m trying to make that happen and put my name in a positive place in this organization.”
